Q: What do I wear for my appointment?

A: Usually comfortable athletic clothes that is easy to move in and can easily be stretched or pulled to expose the affected area for examination.

Q: Do you take my insurance?

A: We are in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (including almost all of their plans across 50 states except the Legacy plan), Cigna, Moda (including the OHSU PPO plan but not the EPO plan), Aetna, Kaiser Added Choice/First Choice Health (check your card if either Added Choice or First Choice is on there then we’re in network), Pacific Source, HealthNet, Medicare, Tricare, Triwest, and Provider Network of America (PNOA). We also accept all motor vehicle insurances in addition to multiple workers compensation plans (including SAIF and Kaiser On The Job).

We’re also credentialed as a Medicaid provider (which would include CareOregon and Open Card). We are not in network with any Providence or United/Optum plans.

Q: Can I just skip the insurance and pay you directly?

A: Yes you can except if you have Medicare. However if Medicare deems the services as not medically necessary, then you can pay directly as those are not covered services.

Q: What type of athletes do you work with?

A: Sports We Support: Baseball, Basketball, BJJ, Cheerleading, Cross country/Marathon running, CrossFit, Equestrianism, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey Pickleball, Powerlifting, Soccer, Tennis, Track & Field, Weightlifting, and Wrestling/MMA.

Q: Why choose Pain & Performance Coach?

A: Tailored care, sport-specific progressions, clear patient timelines, objective tests, no unqualified parties/machines working with you, and a convenient Hillsboro gym location.

Q: What should I expect from my first appointment (the evaluation)?

A: Prior to the appointment we’ll ask you for what body part(s) are affected, if an injury has already been formally diagnosed by a medical professional, and more details to prepare things appropriately for the session. We’ll also send you questionnaires and intake paperwork to make sure we establish a baseline level of functional capacity and have everything ready if you’re using insurance.

The evaluation typically lasts 60-70 minutes (though in select cases if time is permissible for all parties the evaluation can be as long as 90 minutes). There will be a major component to describe in detail what the client is experiencing, followed by range of motion, orthopedic testing, and strength measurement. Depending on the case we might even use other equipment to verify current capacity. From that we have your diagnostics, your plan of care, and a timeline for your recovery.

We’ll also cover in detail a home exercise routine you can start with including how to perform each activity, a specific prescription on how many sets/reps of each activity need to be done, and at what specific frequency. Finally we’ll close by answering any questions you have and booking the next appointments based on a prescribed plan of care and what works well with your lifestyle.
